The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is an international film competition and an annual presentation of short films and documentaries about mountain culture, sports, and environment. It was launched in 1976, and since then it has evolved, to become one of the best-known and most prestigious mountain culture film festivals in the world.

Right after the festival, held every fall in Banff, Alberta, the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour starts to travel the globe with stops in about 450 communities and 40 countries. In 2002, Nevada Land Trust brought Banff to Reno for the first time, we’ve been hosting this event with a great help from sponsors and our amazing volunteers ever since.

This year’s screenings feature the world’s best mountain sports, culture, and environmental films, letting you experience the thrill and challenges of the mountain environments that inspire us all. You will see a selection of award-winning films and crowd favorites from the hundreds of films entered into the annual festival. Among them is The Perfect Flight, a story about a lifelong journey into the medieval traditions of falconry that started when some neighborhood kids gave Shawn Hayes an abandoned red-tailed hawk chick.

Also included is the People’s Choice winner, SHIFT - an amazing story that takes place near a sacred mountain in the Yukon as an Indigenous community transforms itself into an excellent mountain biking destination through the hard work of their young trail crews.

O.K., enough about those amazing films. You will love them, we have no doubt. I want to say a few words about the festival and how, by attending, you can help to protect the open spaces we all enjoy in the place we call home.

The Banff Mountain Film festival is Nevada Land Trust’s largest annual fundraising event, bringing in much-needed funds to help pay for land protection and restoration projects throughout the year. Dollars raised come from event ticket sales and sponsor donations. The money you spend on tickets or a sponsorship we give back to you in the form of a park, meadow, or bike trail, so you can ride, rock climb, raft and explore deserts, mountains, and wilds. Then, you can film it, enter it in the next year festival and we will watch it. Promise!

With your help, we will strive to ensure that there is always an open space so the possibilities are endless!
